Depression

I came across an article in the Reader’s Digest - “The Secret Men Won’t Admit”. The main discussion is about the depression problem and its impact on men. I found this discussion very impressive.

Roughly a third of the 121 million or more people worldwide who suffer depression are men. Too often, men fail to recognise the symptoms and get the treatment they need. Instead of being weeping, men are more apt to be irritable and angry. They come in complaining about problems at work or their performance on the the job. Their sadness and helplessness are hidden behind a mask of anger. Unfortunately, they fail to recognise that as a red flag.

(Reader’s Digest, Nov 2007, pp 85- 89)

They are easily hurt and lose their temper, deep feeling of insecurity. If you feel sad, admit and express it – never think that sadness isn’t macho. Share your burden with the family members or friends, and seek for advice. Treat yourself well – go travelling, go shopping, go for a big meal, buy anything that you wish for a long time. Go for psychotherapy and medication.

Women are vulnerable, so do men. Deal the problem with open mind.

Women are easily depressed too, due to emotion swing, hormone change, genetic inheritance etc. React to stress in more relaxing way. God protects and feeds even the birds, are we not much more valuable than they? Be faithful and pray…
